    Solvent Violet 13 dye is a dark blackish purple that dissolves in toluene, xylene, butyl acetate and acetone but is insoluble in water.  It is used in candle making and cosmetics but also for industrial applications such as dyeing plastics and synthetic fibers.  It is also found in pyrotechnics formulations as a colored smoke dye.
