    Description

    Wonderful, rare wood handled rug hook incised “Pearl K. McGown W. Boylston, Mass.”
    It appears that in addition to creating and selling hooked rug patterns she also made and sold rug hooking tools.
    The wood has a nice smooth surface. It has been put to good use over the years- some of the letters have been worn down though still visible.
    It measures approximately 4” in length.
    The initials of a previous owner are penciled on the handle.

    Pearl Kinnear McGown (February 27, 1891 – 1983) was an American designer of hooked rugs and a teacher and innovator in the field who is credited with helping to bring the craft out of obscurity in the 20th century and gain it recognition as a form of folk art.
