Description
Caleb Johnson started the B.J. Johnson Soap Company, in Milwaukee, in 1864. B.J. Johnson was the creator of the original mixture. The Palmolive brand was initiated in 1898. The brand became so successful, that the name of the company was changed to Palmolive. In the mid 1920's, a Kansas City soap maker, Peet, merged with Palmolive. Then, in 1927, Palmolive-Peet bought Colgate to become Colgate-Palmolive-Peet. The Peet name was later dropped. This is a bottle that once contained Palmolive Shampoo. It is a beautiful amethyst color. The sunlight works with the manganese in the glass to make this attractive color. This bottle features the company name, "B.J. Johnson Soap Co. Milwaukee, Wis. U.S.A."on the face. The backside is embossed, "Palmolive Shampoo". The bottom features an internal bubble, common with the primitive manufacturing process of the day. The bottle is about 7 oz. and is 7 1/4" tall.
The bottle is near perfect with no chips or cracks. This bottle would be from around the 1898-1900 era.
