Antique Gilded Cut Glass Cup & Saucer Floral Gold Decorations. This lovely cup and saucer set probably dates to 1870-1920. My Aunt Judy collected tea cups and this was one of the most unique in the collection.
The cup measures just over 2" tall and just under 3.75" across at the handle. It has a clear glass applied handle with a gold stripe down the center of it. The bottom has a multi-pointed starburst with no gilding. The floral decorations go all the way around the cup and it's all gilded and intact. It also has a gold rim. The cup has no chips or cracks or damages other than a tiny spot right under the handle that appears to be a piece that stuck to they body during handle application. It's on the surface, not a chip and it was part of original manufacturing.
The saucer measures about 4 7/8" across and about .75" tall. The saucer is a much thicker glass than the thin cup, but they are a set. I do believe different artists did the etching or maybe it looks different because of working on a semi-flat surface instead of a rounded, thinner surface.
The saucer has no chips or cracks. The brim retains about 90% of it's original gilding. The floral decorations has a bit of wear to the gilding and has one spot where the gold is completely gone, see photos. The center medallion is also missing a bit more than half of it's gilding. Even with the missing gold, the saucer is beautiful and would display nicely.
The set is quite lovely and would make a wonderful addition to any cut glass or tea cup collection. Happy bidding.
